December 2024 Connect Community Round-Up

Welcome to this month’s blog post. If you have any ideas for improving this blog, or any questions at all, please let me know in the Community Feedback Forum, or message me on the Fediverse (the link is in my profile). Thank you!

A huge welcome to all the newcomers; do feel free to explore the site and post/comment/reply in any of the forums and groups! The Share Space, and Connect Cafe, are probably good spaces to start; your input helps build the community.
While it’s been a mostly quiet month, due in part to the holiday season and the wrapping up of the year, there have been a couple of notable things happening over on IFTAS Connect. The first is the acknowledgement of the UK Online Safety Act (OSA) and how that will impact sites run in the UK. There’s a thread here about what that means, with some useful links about it all. I strongly recommend taking a look at both these links if either you or your instance is based in the UK.

The long-awaited Trust and Safety Needs Assessment Report is available here; thank you to all who participated and helped build an idea of which areas need the most support.

There has been some discussion regarding banning well-known users, with IFTAS Connect members sharing their experiences of what that was like and how it was handled. It’s useful to see the different approaches, and what worked well/didn’t work so well from users’ experiences.

As always, the Library remains an amazing resource, with new articles being added all the time. If you have suggestions for articles, or feedback for existing ones, please let us know here.

So as we head into the new year, all that remains for me to do is to thank you all for your suggestions, posts, and threads, and wish you a very peaceful, healthy, and happy 2025.
