Welcome to this month’s blog post. If you have any ideas for improving this blog, or any questions at all, please let me know in the Community Feedback Forum, or message me on the Fediverse (the link is in my profile). Thank you!
A huge welcome to all the newcomers; do feel free to explore the site and post/comment/reply in any of the forums and groups! The Share Space, and Connect Cafe, are probably good spaces to start; your input helps build the community.
We’ve had some interesting posts this month. Jon Pincus and Lillian Outlaw have been working really hard on the Moderator Handbook, and would greatly appreciate feedback on it here. It’s a fantastic and helpful manual, with detailed parts on every aspect of moderation from conflict resolution to self care for the moderators. It’s well worth a read and if you have any feedback, do let them know.
Darius Kazemi and Erin Kissane have also shared their research on governance on both Mastodon and Hometown over on Mastodon; check out their post with links to the final paper. There’s a thread about it on IFTAS Connect here.
In other news, it’s been a year since the last Fediverse Moderator Needs Assessment, so it’s time to launch 2024’s here. If you’re a moderator, admin, or community manager, please do fill it in; you can do it anonymously, but if you choose to put your name on it, only one person (Jaz) has access to your answers anyway. IFTAS is looking for responses from any and all federated platforms of all sizes.
IFTAS Connect still has quite a few sponsored tickets to the Fedi-Forum this September. Fedi-Forum is an excellent online ‘unconference’ where anyone can do a session on anything (discussed at the beginning of the day and ‘breakout rooms’ allocated for each session); it’s interesting and informative while being relaxed and fun to attend. Mic and camera optional!
The Library remains an amazing resource, with new articles being added all the time. If you have suggestions for articles, or feedback for existing ones, please let us know here.
Thank you for your time, and for contributing across the forums and in the groups. Do feel free to let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see in next month’s round-up, and I’d like to leave this post with another warm welcome to the new members. See you next month!
